The POA (Preschool of the Arts) Classroom Assistant position is a support position to the Preschool of the Arts Lead Classroom Teacher and the students. The POA Classroom Assistant needs to be flexible, kind, patient, and willing to assist in a variety of ways, both in the classroom and around the school. The POA Classroom Assistant should be a team-player, willing to take direction and must have a positive attitude. The POA Classroom Assistant must have at least 60 hours of college credit/Childhood Development or have passed the Paraprofessional PRAXIS exam.

Qualifications: High School graduate or an approved education tor each position. Proficiency in the use of English/Math as demonstrated by the Praxis. Personal characteristics compatible to the teaching process such as enthusiasm, flexibility, compassion, reliability, and professionalism.
Reports to: Principal
Performance Responsibilities:
Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and makeup work, as assigned by the teacher.
Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story telling.
Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
Participates in daily and long-range lesson and classroom activity planning.
Guides children in working and playing harmoniously with other children.
Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary.
Assists teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
Assists with the supervision of children during regular play periods.
Collects and displays suitable material for educational displays.
Collects and records collection of money if needed.
Assists with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal may assign. Required: Proof of one of the following: - 60 completed college credit hours, official or unofficial transcripts are accepted - Minimum score of 460 or greater on ParaPro PRAXIS score -Must be bilingual (Spanish Preferred) If candidate has neither the qualification, nor the proof, they can take the ParaPro PRAXIS exam for a fee.
