  •   GENERAL STATEMENT:
    The Paraprofessional World Language Institute program will offer short world language courses for paraprofessionals in Spanish. The Spanish teacher will plan and deliver instruction in Spanish to develop students’ oral language skills in Spanish. The focus will be on oral language to help paras use Spanish while supporting students in the classroom. 
     
    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 
    • Design and develop lessons that meet the individual learning needs of all students.
    • Set appropriate and demanding expectations for pupils' learning and motivation. Set clear targets for pupils' learning, building on prior attainment.
    • Ensure effective teaching of whole classes, groups and individuals so that teaching objectives are met, momentum and challenge are maintained, and best use is made of teaching time.
    • Use teaching methods which keep pupils engaged, including stimulating pupils' intellectual curiosity, effective questioning and response, clear presentation and good use of resources.
    • Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this assessment for future teaching.
    • Create a safe and welcoming environment so all students can interact and learn.
    • Recognize that learning takes place outside the school context and provide opportunities to develop pupils' understanding by relating their learning to real and work- related examples.
    • Establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues including support staff.
    • Identify clear teaching objectives, content, lesson structures and sequences appropriate to the subject matter and the pupils being taught.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • A valid Connecticut teacher certificate in Foreign Language(s): 023-Spanish, 7-12; 024-Other World Language, 7-12, as appropriate.
    • Currently employed by the Stamford Public Schools.
    • Demonstrated excellence in grade level/subject appropriate teaching.
    • Demonstrated successful experience working with students.
    • Evidence of the ability to work cooperatively with staff.
    • Enthusiasm and commitment to his/her work.
    • Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.
     
    LOCATION:
    School site: Old Town Hall ( 175 Atlantic Street, Stamford)
    Locations are subject to change due to unexpected circumstances 
     
    TERM:
    • June 16th, 17th and 18th 2025 (3 days; tentative dates subject to change)
    • Daily Hours: 8:45 am to 12:15 pm 
      
    SALARY:
    Compensation is as per SEA Teachers Contract.
    *Locations and schedule are subject to change due to unexpected circumstances
    * This position is available using existing grant funds for paraprofessional professional development. If any grant funds are rescinded, the program will be cancelled.
