GENERAL STATEMENT
The purpose of the language classes for paraprofessionals is to provide paras with 8 hours of language learning in-person at the Basic and Beginner levels. We are currently accepting responses for Spanish and Ukrainian.
Expectations:
- Attending ALL classes on time on the designated dates and time
- Engaging in lessons and discussions as part of the Spanish or Ukrainian course
- Class participation is expected and required
- Making a commitment and signing a commitment contract to attend all classes once registered for the course
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Current Paraprofessional in SPS (not open to paras contracted with outside vendors, para substitutes or any other SPS staff except SPS paras.)
- Comfort with use of standard computer applications, work Gmail and online platforms such as Zoom, GoogleMeet and Microsoft Teams
- Commitment to attend all 8 hours of your registered language course
- Willing to work independently and collaboratively during classes
DEADLINE FOR FILING:
You must apply on Applitrack. This is the only way to apply for the course.
You will be required to complete several questions in the application. - Which language do you want to take? You may only choose one response. Spanish or Ukrainian
- Have you studied Spanish or Ukrainian before? Please only answer no if your level is an absolute basic level with NO Spanish or NO Ukrainian..
- If yes, is your level at a beginner level?
- Are you willing to attend all classes: June 16th, June 17th and June 18th? Time will be from 9 am to 12 pm with a planned break.
- Why do you want to learn the language you selected? How will you use it?
Compensation:
Honorarium of $100 will be given to all paras that successfully complete the full language course. This means 100% attendance and on time for all classes.
Please note:
Applicants will be notified by email if they are selected.
This is only open to SPS paras. This is not open to those working for an outside contractor or para substitutes.
Audit: Interested in the world language classes but not a para?
SPS employees that are not part of the para bargaining unit will be permitted to audit the class without receiving an honorarium if space permits. If you are interested in auditing the course without an honorarium, please sign up using the google form: Auditing World Language Classes . Do not sign up here if you are a para eligible to receive the $100 honorarium. All paras must apply online by applying to this posting directly.
