    The filling of this position is based upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.
     
    Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.
     
    GENERAL STATEMENT:
    Teachers must commit to work all  4 weeks with the option to work 6 weeks to teach in the Summer School Program. Special education teachers in specialized programs will work with students in the TEAM, CORE, or ASD programs. A competent special education teacher understands growth and development, demonstrates knowledge of what is to be taught and facility in the basic skills and helps students to develop positive self-concepts. The special education teacher stimulates the independence of each student as a learner, effectively assesses student needs and progress and plans instruction to achieve selected objectives, involving those appropriate for exceptional students. The special education teacher accomplishes these objectives through effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues and through the use of appropriate techniques and materials in a positive climate where time, space and equipment are effectively organized for instruction. In addition, the special education teacher meets professional responsibility for continuing growth and fosters cooperative involvement with parents and the community. The summer school special education teacher will service the educationally disabled students who have been recommended for Extended School Year (ESY) as indicated on the current IEP.
     
    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Demonstrate knowledge of the subject to be taught.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development as it relates to the teaching-learning process.
    • Plan instruction to achieve selected objectives.
    • Effectively implement instructional plans and uses appropriate instructional techniques.
    • Effectively communicate with teachers, students, parents and staff.
    • Help students develop positive self-concepts.
    • Effectively assess student needs and progress.
    • Effectively meet the individual learning needs of students.
    • Establish a positive learning environment.
    • Encourage and maintain the cooperative involvement and support of parents and the community.
    • Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
    • Able to supervise Paraeducators.
    • Ability to maintain and analyze pertinent data.
    • Able to implement Inclusionary practices/co-teaching.
    • Implement continuation of identified IEP goals for ESY.
    • Align and adjust classroom strategies and activities to Connecticut Language Arts and Mathematics Standards.
    • Cooperatively work with school staff and community resource groups to effectively integrate problem-based learning into the teaching and learning process of Summer School.
    • Successfully teach assigned grade level and provide an optimum learning experience for all assigned students.
    • Participate in orientation and professional development activities designed to support summer school.
    • Perform other duties as requested by the Special Education Head Teacher, Summer School Administrator and the Director for Special Education, including meetings and professional development activities planned and provided by the general education Head Teacher.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Current Connecticut Special Education Educator Certificate.
    • Demonstrated excellence in grade level/subject appropriate teaching.
    • Demonstrated successful experience working with students.
    • Evidence of the ability to work cooperatively with staff.
    • Enthusiasm and commitment to his/her work.
    • Familiarity with national, state and local curriculum standards and framework.
    • Demonstrated experience utilizing research-based instructional strategies.
    • Knowledge and experience of differentiated instruction preferred.
    • Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, Power School); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.

    Term:
    • 4 Week Program(ASD, CORE, non-self contained ESY): Monday, June 30th through Friday, July 25th, 2025 (19 days; tentative dates subject to change)
      • No class July 4th
    • 6 Week Program(TEAM): Monday, June 23th through Friday, August 1, 2025 (29 days; tentative dates subject to change)
      • No class July 4th
    • Planning/Staff Development - TBD
     
    Compensation:
    Compensation is as per SEA Teachers Contract.
    • Teachers assigned to APPLES, ASD, CORE, or TEAM will be paid at the higher of either the SEA Contract Summer School rate or the employee’s hourly per diem rate.
     
    Extended School Year (ESY) earnings for work done in compliance with an IEP are pensionable as long as you remain employed with Stamford Public Schools through September 1st.  The 8.25% TRB mandatory contribution will be deducted from your summer paychecks one pay period in arrears, as well as the first check of the school year.
