SUMMARY: The school cafeteria worker is responsible for preparing, serving and portioning food to students and staff in a school cafeteria, ensure meals are served safely and hygienically, while also maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the food service area. May include operating a iPad or computer to record meals and monitoring student behavior during lunch period.
REPORTS TO: Under the direct supervision of the Kitchen Manager.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
- Previous experience in restaurant/kitchen food service management
- Current valid driver's license is needed to travel between buildings using a district vehicle.
- Bilingual Spanish is beneficial
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES: Food preparation: Assisting with cooking, reheating, and portioning food items according to established guidelines.
Prepares food as directed. Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including knives, pots and pans, mixers, ovens, walk-in refrigerators and freezers and commercial dish washers.
Serving food: Operating the serving line, distributing meals to students and staff, and ensuring proper food handling practices. Measures and maintains the temperature of the hot and cold food lines.
Cleaning and sanitation: Maintaining a clean and sanitary work area, including washing dishes, wiping down counters, and cleaning equipment.
Inventory management: Stocking food supplies and rotating stock to ensure freshness.
Student supervision: Monitoring student behavior during meal times, promoting orderly lines and appropriate conduct.
Following food safety regulations: Adhering to proper food handling procedures and sanitation standards.
Work Day: Starts between 7:00 0 8:00 am on a rotating basis

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.
Wears appropriate safety gear, including gloves.
Must comply with school district's food hygiene program.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Occasional travel between schools may be required.
