    The Horizon School Division office is located approximately 100 km east of Saskatoon in the thriving community of Humboldt, SK. The Division serves approximately 6,400 students located in 32 communities. This progressive Board is known for its strong support for small schools, effective professional development, high teacher engagement, innovative approaches, and sound fiscal management. The school division is located on Treaty 6 and Treaty 4 territory, and is comprised of 43 schools including partnerships with seven First Nation Authorities. The Division runs the first provincially operated school in Canada located on George Gordon First Nation.

    Drake School is a Kindergarten to Grade 8 School with a projected enrolment of 58 students, a professional staff of 4.0 FTE teachers.  The school is located in a supportive community with an active student body and enjoys a solid academic and extra-curricular programs.

    The Opportunity 
    Due to the transfer of the incumbent, Horizon School Division is now seeking a successor. Reporting to the Director of Education, the Principal of Drake School is responsible for leading the school's day-to-day operations, ensuring that all students are instructed, assessed, and supported in a safe and welcoming learning environment. You work collaboratively with all school staff in the development of the school's Learning Improvement Plan that is aligned in such a way as to advance Horizon School Division's three pillars of Literacy, Safe & Caring and Graduation Rates. The principal will also ensure the creation and implementation of school policies, regulations, and procedures for financial and procedural administration, scheduling, extracurricular activities, emergency operations, and facilities management. You will also serve as a community role model, and assist staff, families, and the school's community in creating a top-quality educational experience for all students. Other duties will be assigned as required by the Director of Education or designate. This position will commence on the first day of the 2025-2026 School Year. 

     
    Key Roles and Responsibilities 
    • The Role Description for the Principal is outlined in Administrative Procedure 480
    • Maintain and promote high standards for all staff and students with regards to academic performance and personal growth, responsibility and character.
    • Manage, evaluate and supervise the conduct of procedures, operations, curricula, extracurricular activity, and discipline to ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment.
    • Oversee and conduct regular supervision, evaluation and performance appraisals for all staff.
    • Establish and maintain an orderly learning environment that instills accountability and ensures high morale among staff and students

    Qualifications 
    • Valid Saskatchewan teaching certificate (or eligible to obtain)
    • Bachelor of Education Degree
    • Five years of teaching experience 
    • Master of Education Degree would be considered an asset

    You are energetic, with a strong work ethic, and have an intense focus on creating a student centered learning environment.  You care about top quality, instruction, assessment and intervention to meet the needs of all students. You are detail orientated; yet you can also see the big picture and how multiple elements of school life fit together. You work effectively in a school team as well as independently as the school leader. Your positive attitude is infectious and you both recognize your own strengths and have an ability to help others see and leverage theirs.
     
    Drake is an active community of 247 people and offers a range of recreational and service club opportunities. Drake close to one of the largest potash mines in North America and the largest feedlot and ethanol plant in Canada. Drake is 118 km east of Saskatoon on Highway 16 and 10.3 km south.
