JOB SUMMARY:
Plans, coordinates, and participates in the cleaning, general maintenance, and operation of Westlake Academy facilities
using routine procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
QUALIFICATIONS: - High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1 year experience performing custodial duties
- Completion of the state-required fingerprinting and criminal background check is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Maintains a cleaning schedule that includes cleaning floors, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
- Keeps school building and grounds (including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas), neat and clean.
- Leads projects with little to no supervision.
- Provides leadership and ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and the community.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
- Assists in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment; requests additional supplies as needed.
- Establishes priorities and tasks with contracted cleaning service contractors, ensuring required services are performed on a daily basis.
- Orders supplies and equipment, ensuring proper use and storage.
- Sets up, cleans and maintains cafeteria during breakfast, lunch, assemblies and parties.
- Performs general cleaning as lead person during summer holidays and in-service days.
- Assists facilities staff in maintaining outdoor areas, as necessary.
- Operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Maintains custodial and safety records, as required.
- Recommends custodial needs and recommends priorities for the custodial program.
- Performs related duties, as assigned or required.
OTHER DUTIES: - Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance to the Board rules, policies and regulations. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of methods and materials used in minor maintenance of buildings and equipment.
- Knowledge of surfaces and coverings and the appropriate cleaning, polishing, and protective agents.
- Knowledge of safety procedures.
- Ability to recognize custodial needs and initiate appropriate action.
- Ability to maintain records and prepare concise reports.
- Ability to use and care for operations equipment.
- Ability to use software to read and write email, and status work orders.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work, including contracted custodial staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the performance of duties.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals for email and work orders. Standard custodial/maintenance equipment/tools, including buffers, vacuum cleaners, brooms, mops, hand tools, shampooer, hand trucks, dollies. Cleansers and chemicals are used on a daily basis which may be considered hazardous if misused or mishandled.
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent sitting, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Frequent repetitive hand and arm motions; frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching, and overhead reaching. Sits, stands, walks, kneels, crouches, squats, crawls, bends, twists, climbs and lifts on a daily basis. Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, vibration, wetness/humidity and limited lighting on a daily basis. Exposure to extreme temperatures seasonally. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and communicable diseases several times per month. Lifts 40 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally.
Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance is required.
