POSITION TITLE: Elementary Physical Education Teacher
Position Type: Full Time - 1.0 FTE
Pay Range: Salary placement on our Certified Salary Schedule Full 2025-2026 Certified Salary Schedule is available online through our website at www.universityschools.com.

University Schools is in its 129th year of existence. After a 108 year association with the University of Northern Colorado, University Schools opened as a public charter school, at its current location, in the fall of 2002. In the fall of 2013, a new middle school building was added. University Schools is K-12 and enrolls nearly 1,800 students. University Schools continues to be an integral component of UNC’s teacher education mission. University Schools’ faculty and staff innovate and model effective student-centered teaching and learning.

University Schools has two buildings on one campus: an Elementary/High School located at 6525 W. 18th Street and a Middle School located at 1717 65th Avenue, Greeley, Colorado. Greeley is fifty miles east of the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Greeley is an agricultural community with light industry and a major Colorado university. The city has a population of 103,900 while Weld County has a population of 269,785.

Summary/Objective
Under the general supervision of the School Principal and Assistant Principal, to develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being; and to motivate students to work towards, physical fitness, hygiene, and good health.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Develop and administer Physical Education classes consistent with University Schools mission and vision.
- Teach knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in, physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to student learning.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials to maximize learning experiences in available time for instruction.
- Assist in coordinating extra-curricular activities, including athletic events.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
- Instruct students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of University Schools.
- Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially within physical education department, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and acquire appropriate instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- Inspect equipment and field areas used to ensure they are in good and safe working order.
- Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Serve as an advisor for elementary students in accordance with University Elementary School programs and expectations.
- Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and University Schools policies.
- Coordinate with staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Supervise students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with District/State/University Schools testing programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of current physical education instructional methods, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding education and students, as well as relating to health education.
- Knowledge of physiology, health and nutrition, biology and biological functions, anatomy, hygiene, exercise, and best ways to promote physical and mental well-being.
Education and Related Work Experience - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
- Hold or be eligible for a Colorado teaching license.
- Prefer teacher to demonstrate the following experience:
- successful elementary school teaching experience
- interest and skill in the development of innovative approaches to teaching and interdisciplinary education
Licenses, Registrations or Certifications
- Colorado State Certification as a Teacher.
- Colorado State Certification Endorsement in the appropriate grade level subject preferred.
- CPR Certified.
- Background check required for hire.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.
Working Conditions - Works in standard office and school building environments.
- May be exposed to poor weather conditions including heat, cold, wet and snow and other outdoor weather conditions.
- The work environment combines standard office setting including some standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.)
- The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.
