Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
2. A valid Colorado Teaching Certificate endorsed in area of assignment.
    - Endorsement must be Early Childhood Special Education - ECSE required
    - Applicants with a BA (or higher - in ANY area) AND who are in (or willing to be in) and ECSE program are eligible to apply
    - Can be enrolled in a TEE or Alternative Licensure program 
3. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate.

Job Goals:
To create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good educational background in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Performance Responsibilities:
1. Plans a program of study that is appropriate to the maturity and interest of students and I meets their individual needs and abilities.
2. Creates a positive classroom environment which upholds and enforces the school rules and is conducive to learning.
3. The teacher will guide the learning process to increase student achievement in accordance with the curriculum and consistent with state and local standards.
4. Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
5. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required in a timely and confidential manner.
6. Work with other professionals to determine special learning needs of pupils on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of specialists as required.
7. Collaborates with colleagues, students, and/or parents on an ongoing basis concerning student academic and behavioral progress.
8. The school professional adheres to the Board of Education policies, state rules and regulations, and to licensure standards.
9. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence and serves on staff committees as required.

Salary:
Certified salary is based upon degree status and years of experience. Horizontal advancements are based upon "Graduate" level credits and staff development hours obtained after the last degree was conferred.

Certified Salary Schedule

One year of credit will be provided for each year of approved outside teaching experience.

Preferred Minimum Qualifications:
  1.  High school graduate or equivalent.
  2.  Associates Degree or 48 semester hours or ACT certified - (Required)
  3.  Obtain First Aid/CPR training.
  4.  Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  5.  Ability and willingness to take directions.
  6.  Ability and willingness to meet the needs of students.
  7.  Excellent references including attendance and punctuality.

Job Goals:
To provide support in the educational services for special needs students.

Essential Job Functions:
  1.  To assist in the overall programming for special needs students under the direction of assigned personnel.
  2.  Instructional support for academic tasks.
  3.  Redirection of student behavior.
  4.  Monitoring of students during structured and unstructured times.
  5.  Assistance with life skill activities, i.e. dressing, eating, and toileting.
  6.  Related service activities such as motor skill development and language activities.
  7.  Medical procedures as indicated on health care plans.

Performance Responsibilities:
Foster a relationship with students based upon warmth, concern, mutual respect, and shared excitement in learning. 

Tools and Equipment:
Wheelchairs, bus lifts, office equipment, audio-visual equipment, occupational/physical therapy equipment, medical equipment.  All tools and equipment may not be listed.

Salary:
Special Education Paraeducators are on the Classified Salary Schedule.
- FFC8 allows new hires to bring in up to 8 years of previous experience in similar school type settings.
- Please understand that new hires tend to start out at the lower end of the salary range.
