DEFINITION

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
• Collaborates with head coach to plan, organize, and coordinate the school site interscholastic sports program.
• Supervises students during practice, games, tournaments, and team travel.
• Collaborates with head coach to plans, organize, and coordinate sports activities and training workouts, and coaches individuals concerning specific physical performance activities and procedures.
• Provides teaching and instruction in athletic skill development
• Observes sport participants during practice and workout sessions to detect and correct errors in activity procedures and methods.
• Instructs, explains and enforces health and safety rules and regulations.
• Assesses the athletic team skills and opponents’ capabilities and determines game strategies.
• Provides a variety of interscholastic sport activities, which requires the coordination of travel and equipment transporting of out-the-area games and activities.
• May participate or coordinate opponent scouting activities.
• Communicates with school and community stakeholders including media and press.
• Complies strictly with IESA/IHSA/NFHS rules and guidelines including but not limited to rules regarding sportsmanship, recruiting, and the safety of students at all times.
• Maintains confidentiality.

The applicant must hold an Illinois Professional Educator License with Adaptive PE Endorsement or be willing to complete the required coursework within three years of hire.  Tuition reimbursement will be provided at $300 per credit hour. 

The goal of the adapted PE program is to: To ensure that an individual with a disability has access to programs designed to develop physical and motor fitness, fundamental motor skills and sports skills so that the individual can ultimately participate in community based leisure, recreation and sport activities and enjoy an enhanced quality of life.

Job duties of this position include:
1. Assess students in the areas of fitness, sport skills and fundamental motor patterns to identify deficiencies in physical education components through testing, observation and consultation with the regular physical education instructor.
2. Participate in appropriate IEP, eligibility and educational conferences concerning individual students.
3. Accurately complete applicable sections of the IEP, including quarterly progress monitoring.
4. Correspond with administrators, teachers and parents relative to the needs of each student and how the adapted physical education program will meet those needs.
5. Instruct students with special physical education needs that cannot be addressed in the regular physical education setting with adaptations and/or modifications.  Instruction can be within the regular physical education setting or in an individualized setting.
6. Develop and implement Individualized Educational Plans for each student who is placed in an adapted physical education program.
7. Incorporate regular physical educators, classroom teachers and instructional/personal assistants into the child’s physical education program whenever appropriate, and train them to utilize adapted materials and equipment.
8. Adapt physical education equipment and/or provide adaptive equipment as needed.
9. Provide in-service workshops for school personnel.
10. Perform other pertinent duties as assigned by the principal or director

Diagnostics:
1.  Conduct comprehensive audiological assessment (using specific audiometric measures appropriate to the child’s needs and status) for each child who is referred, as well as any necessary follow-up evaluations, including evaluations with hearing aids or FM systems.
2.  Discuss test findings and recommendations as appropriate with parents/guardians of each child evaluated.
3.  Develop an audiological summary of testing and make recommendations, based on test results, to be shared with the school and any appropriate medical facilities or other agencies.
4.  Conduct impedance screenings with area Early Childhood, Preschool for All, and Head Start programs.
 
Classroom and Personal FM Systems:
1.  Advise school administrators and educators regarding the selection and purchase of auditory training equipment, and further be responsible for the electroacoustic evaluation of such equipment once it is placed in the classroom.
2.  Make earmold impressions for use with auditory training equipment and teach earmold care to staff and students
3.  Assess and monitor classroom acoustics and the proper use of amplifying equipment.
 
Aural Rehabilitation:
1.  Participate in the development of, and implementation of, aural rehabilitation programs.
 
Team Membership:
1.  Participate in all aspects of EAR team.

            TECHNICAL ASSISTANT
1. Develop and maintain records for STEP program and Vocational Coordinator/Transition Specialist.
2. Dispose of outdated records according to state guidelines.
3. Mail correspondence to parents, students, and employers.
4. Obtain and process time sheets from employees/employers. 
5. Respond to all requests for accessing, copying, reviewing, inspecting, amending, destroying, and storing STEP and transition-related records.
6. Follow procedures for Release of Information.
7. Ensure confidentiality of all records at collections, storage, disclosure, and destruction stages
8. Maintain accurate and current student lists by each school and employer.
9. Perform other pertinent duties as assigned by Pre-Vocational Coordinator/Transition Specialist and Assistant Director.
